Advanced Features - Notes Mail - The Best Mobile Support in the Industry
The Notes Client maximizes off-line productivity with the most comprehensive and convenient mobile messaging support ever offered. Domino and Notes give remote users full access to their LAN-based Notes Mail messages, by supporting replication of mail files, discussions and other databases directly to remote systems.
Users can choose to download subsets of their mailbox in order to save space in their portable computers; for instance, their inbox and drafts but none of their folders. Notes also lets users automatically limit messages kept locally to a specified time period (the last 90 days, for example).
The Domino Server and Notes Client together support selective downloading of specified documents (like message headers only, or the full message minus attachments) for additional convenience and time savings. Users can even download part of a message and request the rest later. Notes provides constant feedback to the user during replication as to the number of documents and estimated time remaining.
The Domino and Notes ability to replicate only the parts of a database (like a Domino directory) that have changed -- down to the field level -- further reduces both replication time and the message traffic associated with replication of mobile databases and directories.
Domino and Notes also support replication of a subset of corporate directory information specifically tailored for mobile Notes users. The mobile directory includes only those fields needed for fast, easy mobile use (names, phone numbers and e-mail addresses); it takes up only 10% to 25% of the disk space required by the complete directory. This saves valuable space on laptops and, along with other mobile features, makes it feasible for mobile users to locally maintain an up-to-date corporate directory.
Location profiles let users or administrators set up a wide range of criteria about any location from which mobile access may take place:
- Communication method and related parameters
- Connection interval
- Scope of replication (send only, receive only, receive e-mail headers only, etc.)
Once a location is defined, all a user need do to access the Domino object store from that location is select an item from a pop-up menu. Notes can adjust communication parameters automatically.
In the Domino and Notes client/server architecture, Notes can be configured for dial-up access. And, since Notes runs on more operating systems than any other e-mail client, mobile users and home users won't need new equipment.
